Identity in Christ

Lesson 14: Identity in Christ

Key Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 1:3-7

Teaching Points:

  • Made New: Walking in Your True Identity
“Your identity is no longer defined by your past.”
It’s easy to carry old labels—mistakes, regrets, or things others have said about us. These can cling tightly, shaping how we see ourselves. But God does not define you by where you’ve been. Your past may explain part of your story, but it does not determine your worth or your future.
“In Christ, you are forgiven, chosen, and made new.”
This is the heart of the gospel. Forgiven—not partially, but completely. Chosen—not accidentally, but intentionally. Made new—not improved, but transformed. When God looks at you, He sees redemption, not failure. He sees purpose, not brokenness. Your identity is rooted in His love, not your performance.
“Understanding your identity brings confidence and freedom.”
When you truly grasp who you are in Christ, something shifts. You no longer strive to prove your worth—you live from it. Confidence grows, not from pride, but from security in God’s truth. Freedom comes, not from having no struggles, but from knowing those struggles don’t define you.
Today, walk in that freedom. Reject the voices of the past and embrace the truth of who you are now. You are not who you were—you are who God says you are.
    Reflection:
What old identity or label do you need to let go of today?
    Prayer:
Lord, help me to see myself the way You see me. Remind me that I am forgiven, chosen, and made new. Teach me to walk in confidence and freedom, rooted in my identity in You. Amen.

If you want, I can make this more poetic, more scripture-heavy, or tailored to a specific audience (youth, men, women, etc.).

  • What does it mean to be “in Christ”?
  • How can knowing your identity change your daily life?
