Overcoming Temptation and Spiritual Warfare

Lesson 9: Overcoming Temptation and Spiritual Warfare

Key Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 6:10-18 Romans 6:15-16

Objective:

Equip new believers to recognize and resist temptation using God’s power.

Teaching Points:

  • Temptation is something every person faces—it doesn’t discriminate, and it often arrives when we feel weakest. Yet Scripture reminds us that God is faithful; He never allows temptation without also providing a way to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13). That “way out” isn’t always escape—it’s often the strength to stand firm.
  • Spiritual battles aren’t fought with willpower alone. They are fought with truth that anchors our minds, faith that steadies our hearts, prayer that connects us to God’s power, and His Word that guides and corrects us (Ephesians 6:10–18). When we neglect these, we fight unarmed. But when we lean into them, we are no longer striving alone.
  • God hasn’t left us defenseless. He has given us His armor—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word—to protect and strengthen us for daily challenges. This armor isn’t just for major crises; it’s for everyday life: the quiet struggles, the unseen choices, the internal battles.
  • Today, whatever you face, remember: you are not alone, you are not unprepared, and you are not without help. Stand firm, trust God’s provision, and walk forward in His strength.
  • Prayer:
  • Lord, help me recognize the battles I face and trust in the strength You provide. Teach me to rely on Your truth, hold onto faith, remain in prayer, and stay rooted in Your Word. Clothe me in Your armor so I can stand firm today. Amen.

Discussion Questions:

  • What temptations do you struggle with most?
  • How can Scripture help you resist sin?
  • Which piece of God’s armor do you need to put on more consistently?

Practical Application:

  • Memorize 1 Corinthians 10:13.
  • Pray daily for strength to resist temptation.
  • Identify one practical step to avoid a recurring temptation.
