What is Baptism
Lesson 6: Baptism
Key Scriptures: Matthew 3:13-15, Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21
Teaching Points:
- Baptism is more than a moment—it’s a declaration. It is a visible, public expression of an inward faith, a way of saying to the world, “I belong to Jesus.” It marks the beginning of a life no longer hidden, but boldly identified with Him.
- As we go under the water, we are reminded of the old self—our past, our sin, our former way of living—being buried. And as we rise, we reflect the new life we’ve been given in Christ. It’s a powerful picture of transformation, a reminder that we are not who we once were.
- Baptism is also an act of obedience. It doesn’t save us, but it follows salvation as a step of trust and surrender. In choosing baptism, we respond to God’s grace with a willing heart, walking in the path He has set before us.
- Prayer:
- Lord, thank You for new life in Christ. Help me to live out my faith boldly and walk in obedience to You. Remind me daily that I am made new, and give me courage to reflect that in how I live. Amen.
Discussion Questions:
- Why is baptism important even after salvation?
- What does “dying to the old self” mean to you personally?
Practical Application:
Discuss with a pastor or mentor the next steps to being baptized.
Reflect on your personal readiness for baptism.
