United to Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Scripture: John 15:1\u20135<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus said, \u201cI am the vine, ye are the branches.\u201d<\/strong> This simple picture teaches us one of the most important truths about the Christian life: the believer’s life is found in union with Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Believers Are United to Christ Through Faith<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When we trust in Jesus Christ, we are not merely agreeing with certain truths about Him. We are brought into a living relationship with Him. Christ becomes our Savior, Lord, and source of spiritual life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith joins us to Christ so that what belongs to Him becomes the foundation of our new life. We are no longer standing before God on the basis of our own righteousness. We belong to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.\u201d \u2014 John 3:36<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Christ Is the Source of Spiritual Life and Fruitfulness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A branch cannot produce fruit by itself. Its life comes from the vine. In the same way, everything spiritually good in the believer’s life ultimately comes from Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our strength, wisdom, holiness, love, perseverance, and ability to serve God do not originate in ourselves. Christ supplies what we need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closer we walk with Him, the more His life is displayed through us. Spiritual fruit is not produced by simply trying harder; it is produced as we remain connected to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Apart From Christ, We Cannot Accomplish Anything of Lasting Spiritual Value<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jesus said plainly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor without me ye can do nothing.\u201d \u2014 John 15:5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can accomplish many things through natural ability. We can build organizations, make money, gain recognition, and even perform religious activities. But accomplishments are not necessarily spiritual fruit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only what is done through Christ and for Christ has eternal value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This should humble us. We do not need to pretend that we are sufficient in ourselves. We need Christ every day, every hour, and in every task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Our Identity Is Now Connected to Christ Rather Than Our Former Life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The believer is no longer defined by who he used to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our past may explain where we came from, but it does not determine who we are now. We belong to Christ. We have been given a new identity and a new purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTherefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.\u201d \u2014 2 Corinthians 5:17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our identity is not ultimately found in our failures, successes, possessions, position, or reputation. It is found in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we understand this, we can stop living as though we are still enslaved to the person we once were. We can begin living according to who we are in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Abiding in Christ Involves Dependence, Obedience, and Fellowship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To abide in Christ means to remain in Him\u2014to continue walking with Him and depending upon Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abiding involves dependence<\/strong>: recognizing that we need Christ rather than trusting ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It involves obedience<\/strong>: taking His Word seriously and ordering our lives according to His commands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It involves fellowship<\/strong>: maintaining a living relationship with Christ through prayer, His Word, worship, and communion with Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The branch does not visit the vine occasionally and then live independently. It remains connected to the vine. Likewise, the Christian life is not something we can successfully live apart from Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
