Scripture: Hebrews 5:14<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Not Everything That Sounds Spiritual Is Biblically True<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Something can sound spiritual, encouraging, or even Christian and still be wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus warned about false teachers, and the apostles repeatedly instructed believers to test what they hear. We should never accept a teaching simply because it sounds good or comes from someone who appears spiritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our question should be: Does this agree with God’s Word?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Mature Believers Evaluate Teachings Carefully<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Spiritual maturity means learning to think carefully rather than accepting every idea we hear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acts 17:11 praises the Bereans because they listened to Paul’s teaching but then examined the Scriptures to see whether what he taught was true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We should do the same. We can listen respectfully while still comparing what we hear with Scripture. God’s Word\u2014not personality, popularity, emotion, or tradition\u2014is the standard by which teaching must ultimately be evaluated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Biblical Discernment Produces Wisdom, Not Arrogance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Discernment is not an excuse to become critical or proud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A person can correctly identify false teaching and still respond in the wrong spirit. Biblical discernment should make us wiser, humbler, and more careful<\/strong>, not arrogant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is not to prove that we are smarter than someone else. The goal is to remain faithful to Christ and His Word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spiritual maturity includes learning to distinguish truth from error<\/strong>. As we know Scripture, apply Scripture, and carefully test what we hear against Scripture, our spiritual discernment grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But true discernment should always be accompanied by humility. We discern so that we can walk wisely, guard the truth, and help others\u2014not so that we can boast about what we know.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
