The Grace of God
Lesson 22: The Grace of God
Key Scriptures: Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 2:11-12, 2 Corinthians 12:9
Teaching Points:
- “Grace is God’s unearned favor toward us.”
- Grace is a gift—freely given, never earned. It’s God choosing to love, forgive, and bless us, despite our guilt. God is Holy and Just and due to this nature, cannot overlook any sin. All sin needs to be paid for by His wrath being poured out by the shedding of His blood on the sinner. But we see God’s love in that He sent His Son to live the perfect life we required, and then pour out His wrath on His Son Jesus as a substitute for us to pay for our sins. Because we are sinful from birth, we cannot in any way make ourselves worthy. Grace meets us right where we are and reminds us that despite our unworthiness, we are deeply loved.
- “We are saved by grace, not by works.”
- It’s easy to fall into the mindset that we have to earn God’s approval. But salvation is not something we achieve—it’s something we receive. No amount of good deeds can secure it. God’s grace, shown through Jesus, is what saves us. This truth brings freedom, removing the pressure to perform and replacing it with peace.
- “Grace not only saves us but teaches us how to live.”
- Grace doesn’t stop at salvation—it continues to shape our lives. It teaches us to turn away from what harms us and to pursue what honors God. Grace gently guides, corrects, and strengthens us each day. It empowers us to live differently, not out of obligation, but out of gratitude.
- Today, rest in God’s grace. You don’t have to earn it—you just have to receive it and let it transform you.
- Reflection:
- Are you striving to earn what God has already freely given?
- Prayer:
- Lord, thank You for Your grace. Help me to stop striving and start trusting in what You have already done for me. Teach me to live in a way that reflects Your grace each day. Amen.
Discussion Questions:
- Why is it difficult to accept grace sometimes?
- How does grace change the way we live?
- What is the difference between grace and mercy?
Practical Application:
- Thank God daily for His grace.
- Extend grace to someone who doesn’t “deserve” it.
