Examining Your Faith

Lesson 34: Examining Your Faith

Key Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 13:5, Psalm 139:23-24, James 2:17

Teaching Points:

Title: A Faith That Shows

Scripture Focus: “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.” — 2 Corinthians 13:5

Devotional:
Faith was never meant to be something we simply claim—it’s something we live. The call to examine our faith isn’t about doubt; it’s about honesty. God invites us to look beneath the surface and ask: Is my faith real, active, and growing?

True faith doesn’t stay hidden. It reveals itself through our choices, our attitudes, and the way we treat others. As James the Apostle reminds us, faith without works is dead. Our actions don’t earn salvation, but they do reflect the condition of our hearts.

God isn’t impressed by appearances. He isn’t looking for polished words or outward performance—He desires sincerity. Like King David prayed, we should ask God to search us and reveal anything that isn’t aligned with Him. That kind of humility opens the door for real transformation.

When we take time for honest self-examination, we grow. We become more aware of where we need to change and more dependent on God’s strength to do it. This leads to a deeper, more committed walk with Him—not based on routine, but on relationship.

Reflection Questions:

  • What evidence of faith is visible in my daily life?
  • Am I more concerned with appearances or authenticity before God?
  • What is one area where I sense God calling me to grow?

Prayer:
Lord, help me to examine my heart honestly. Remove anything in me that is not sincere. Let my faith be real and evident in how I live. Shape me into someone who reflects You—not just in words, but in truth and action. Amen.

Discussion Questions:

  • What evidence of faith do you see in your life?
  • Are there areas where your actions don’t match your beliefs?
  • Why is self-examination important for spiritual growth?

Practical Application:

  • Ask God to search your heart and reveal areas to grow.
  • Reflect on your daily actions and attitudes.
  • Make one intentional change that aligns your life with your faith.
