Identity in Christ

Lesson 43: Identity in Christ

Key Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 2:20

Teaching Points:

Who You Are in Christ

“Identity is found in Christ, not performance.”

Many people spend their lives trying to prove their worth through success, approval, or achievement. But our identity was never meant to be built on performance. In Christ, we are loved and accepted not because of what we do, but because of what He has done. When our identity is rooted in Him, we are freed from the pressure to constantly earn value or approval.

“We are made new through Him.”

Jesus does more than improve our lives—He transforms them. Through Him, the old life no longer defines us. Shame, failure, and past mistakes do not have the final word. In Christ, we are made new, given a fresh beginning and a new purpose. God sees us through the lens of redemption and grace.

“Understanding identity changes how we live.”

When you know who you are in Christ, it affects the way you think, speak, and live. Confidence replaces insecurity. Purpose replaces confusion. Obedience becomes a response to love instead of an attempt to gain acceptance. A secure identity in Christ gives strength to walk in freedom and truth.

Today, remember that your worth is not found in your performance but in your relationship with Christ. Let His truth shape the way you see yourself and the way you live.

Reflection:
Are you finding your identity in Christ, or in what you achieve?

Prayer:
Lord, help me to find my identity in You alone. Remind me that I am made new through Christ and free from the need to prove my worth. Teach me to live confidently in the truth of who You say I am. Amen.

Discussion Questions:

  • What defines your identity right now?
  • How does being “in Christ” change your perspective?
  • How can identity affect behavior?
