The Lordship of Christ
Lesson 23: The Lordship of Christ
Key Scriptures: Luke 9:23, Romans 12:1-2, Philippians 2:9-11
Teaching Points:
Savior and Lord
“Jesus is not only Savior but also Lord.”
It’s comforting to know Jesus as Savior—the One who forgives, restores, and rescues us. But He is also Lord, meaning He has authority over our lives. Following Him is not just about receiving salvation; it’s about recognizing His rightful place as King. When we call Him Lord, we are choosing to trust His leadership in every area of our lives.
“Following Christ requires surrender and daily commitment.”
Walking with Jesus isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a daily choice. Each day presents opportunities to follow Him or follow our own way. Surrender means laying down our plans, our preferences, and our control, and choosing His will instead. Commitment means continuing to follow, even when it’s difficult or inconvenient.
“True discipleship involves denying self and obeying Him.”
Discipleship goes deeper than belief—it’s about transformation of our life and being a witness to those around us by building His Kingdom. Denying self doesn’t mean losing who you are; it means putting Christ and His Kingdom first. It’s choosing obedience over comfort and faithfulness over convenience. As we follow Him, our lives begin to reflect His character more and more.
Today, don’t just receive Jesus as Savior—honor Him as Lord. Surrender your day, your decisions, and your desires to Him, trust Him to lead you well and share His good news with someone.
Reflection:
Is there an area of your life where you need to surrender more fully to Jesus as Lord?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Savior. Help me also to honor You as Lord in every area of my life. Teach me to surrender daily, to deny myself, and to follow You in obedience. Amen.
