Lesson 71: The Lordship of Christ

Key Scriptures: Colossians 1:15–18, Luke 6:46

Teaching Points:

      • Jesus: Savior and Lord
      • Scripture: “Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?” — Luke 6:46
      • Many people gladly accept Jesus as Savior because they desire forgiveness and eternal life. Yet Scripture teaches that Jesus is not only Savior—He is also Lord. To receive Christ is to acknowledge His rightful authority over our lives. He saves us from sin and calls us to follow Him in obedience.
      • Following Christ involves submission to His authority. A disciple does not simply admire Jesus or agree with His teachings; a disciple obeys Him. This means surrendering our plans, desires, and ambitions to His will. Obedience may sometimes be difficult, but it is always for our good and for God’s glory.
      • True discipleship places Christ first in every area of life. He is to be Lord over our relationships, finances, careers, priorities, thoughts, and decisions. Jesus said that anyone who follows Him must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Him (Luke 9:23). When Christ is first, every other aspect of life finds its proper place.
      • Today, consider whether there are areas of your life where Christ’s lordship is being resisted. Ask Him for the grace to submit fully to His authority and to follow Him wholeheartedly.
      • Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me and making me Your own. Help me to submit joyfully to Your authority in every area of my life. Teach me to place You first above all else and to follow You faithfully each day. Amen.

Discussion Questions:
