Preparing for Bible Study

Lesson 32: Preparing for Bible Study

Key Scriptures: Ezra 7:10, Psalm 119:18, Acts 17:11

Teaching Points:

Devotional: A Heart Ready to Receive

Scripture:

“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” — Bible (Psalm 119:18)

A prepared heart is essential for understanding God’s Word. The condition of our heart often determines what we receive. If we come distracted, prideful, or rushed, we may miss what God is trying to show us. But when we come with openness and readiness, His truth becomes clear and personal.

Bible study requires intentional time, focus, and humility. It’s not something we rush through, but something we enter into. Setting aside distractions and approaching Scripture with a teachable spirit allows God to speak more deeply into our lives.

We are not left to figure it out on our own. The Holy Spirit gives understanding and insight, guiding us into truth and helping us apply what we read. He turns words on a page into living truth in our hearts.

But studying Scripture is not just about gaining knowledge—it’s about transformation. God’s Word is meant to shape how we think, live, and respond. True understanding leads to life change.

Reflection:

How can you better prepare your heart before spending time in God’s Word?

Prayer:

Lord, prepare my heart to receive Your Word. Give me focus, humility, and understanding through Your Spirit. Help me not only to learn, but to live out what You teach me. Amen.
