Lesson 77: Developing a Servant’s Heart
Key Scriptures: John 13:14–15, Mark 9:35
Teaching Points:
Jesus modeled humble service in every part of His life. He didn’t just teach about serving others—He lived it. From washing His disciples’ feet to welcoming those on the margins of society, He showed that true greatness is not found in status, but in love expressed through action.
Service is one of the clearest expressions of love. It moves love out of words and into tangible care. When we serve others—especially when it costs us something—we reflect the heart of Christ. Love that stays only in feeling is incomplete; love that serves becomes visible and real.
In God’s Kingdom, greatness is defined differently than in the world. Jesus redefined it by saying that the greatest is the one who serves. This flips human ambition upside down. Instead of climbing over others, we are invited to kneel beside them. Instead of seeking recognition, we seek to meet needs.
Today’s reflection is simple: where can love be expressed through service in your life right now? Even small acts—listening, helping, encouraging—carry Kingdom weight when done with the heart of Christ.
Discussion Questions:
- What keeps people from serving?
- How did Jesus demonstrate humility?
- Where can you serve more faithfully?
