The Spirit Lives Within Us
The Holy Spirit is not merely a force, influence, or feeling. He is fully God and personally indwells every believer. When we trust in Christ, God gives us His Spirit to live within us.
The presence of the Holy Spirit means that we never have to live the Christian life in our own strength. God Himself is at work within us.
The Spirit Teaches and Changes Us
The Holy Spirit teaches us God’s truth, convicts us when we sin, guides us in the way we should go, gives us strength to obey, and sanctifies us so that we become more like Christ.
His work is not simply to make us feel better. His purpose is to make us holy.
When the Spirit convicts us of sin, we should not resist Him. His conviction is evidence of His loving work in our lives.
The Spirit Seals Us as God’s Possession
Paul tells us that believers are “sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13).
A seal represented ownership and security. The Holy Spirit is God’s mark upon His people. We belong to Him, and the Spirit is the guarantee that God will complete the salvation He has begun in us.
Our assurance rests not in our ability to hold onto God, but in God’s faithfulness to hold onto us.
The Spirit Uses Scripture to Transform Us
The Holy Spirit works through the Word of God to change the way we think and live. As we read Scripture, meditate upon it, believe it, and obey it, the Spirit uses God’s truth to renew our minds.
The Spirit does not lead us contrary to Scripture. Rather, He uses Scripture to show us what is true, expose what is wrong, and teach us how we should live.
That is why we should not merely read the Bible—we should allow its truth to shape our thinking and our behavior.
Spirit-Filled Living Produces Obedience
Being filled with the Spirit is not primarily about having an emotional experience. It is about allowing the Spirit to control our lives.
As we yield ourselves to Him, there should be increasing evidence of obedience to Christ. We become more sensitive to sin, more willing to obey God’s Word, more loving toward others, and more like Jesus.
Christian growth is therefore not simply trying harder. It is learning to depend upon the Holy Spirit who lives within us.

Ask yourself:
- Am I listening when the Holy Spirit convicts me of sin?
- Am I allowing Scripture to change the way I think?
- Am I depending upon the Spirit rather than my own strength?
- Is my life showing increasing obedience to Christ?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit. Help me to recognize His work in my life, listen to His conviction, follow His guidance, and depend upon His strength. Use Your Word to transform my thinking and my behavior. Make me increasingly obedient to Christ and more like Him each day. Amen.
