Lesson 48: Humility Before God

Lesson 48: Humility Before God

Key Scriptures: James 4:6, Micah 6:8

Teaching Points:

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” — The Bible

Devotional

One of the clearest patterns in Scripture is that God responds differently to pride and humility. Pride resists correction, seeks self-glory, and depends on human strength. Humility recognizes our need for God and willingly submits to Him.

God gives grace to the humble. Grace is not only forgiveness; it is also God’s strength working in us. When we humble ourselves before Him, we become teachable, sensitive to conviction, and open to His leading. Humility creates room for God to shape our hearts.

Pride blocks spiritual growth because it convinces us we already know enough, already see clearly, or already have control. A proud heart struggles to repent, forgive, listen, or change. Spiritual maturity cannot grow where self-exaltation rules.

Humility opens the door to transformation. When we honestly confess our weakness, God meets us with mercy and power. He transforms people who are willing to surrender. Throughout Scripture, God used humble men and women—not perfect people, but people who depended on Him.

True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking rightly about yourself before God. It is recognizing that every good gift, every victory, and every step of growth comes from Him.
