Trusting God While We Wait

Scripture: Psalm 27:14

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

Waiting Is Often Part of God’s Plan

Waiting can be difficult because we usually want answers, solutions, and results immediately. But Scripture reminds us that God’s timing is not always our timing. Sometimes God allows us to wait because He is accomplishing something that we cannot yet see.

Waiting does not mean that God has forgotten us. God is still working, even when we cannot see what He is doing.

1. God Works While We Wait

When we are waiting for God to answer a prayer or change a situation, it may appear that nothing is happening. Yet God can be working behind the scenes, preparing circumstances, changing hearts, and preparing us for what lies ahead.

Joseph waited many years before seeing God’s purpose fulfilled. During those years, God was preparing Joseph for the responsibility that would eventually come.

Our waiting is never wasted when we are waiting on God.

2. Patience Develops Faith and Character

Waiting teaches us to depend upon God rather than demanding our own timing. It develops patience, perseverance, and trust.

Romans 5:3–4 reminds us that tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance produces character. Difficult seasons can therefore become opportunities for spiritual growth.

Sometimes God changes our circumstances quickly. Other times, He changes us while we wait for the circumstances to change.

Application

When you find yourself waiting, ask:

• Am I trusting God even though I cannot see what He is doing?
• What might God be teaching me during this season?
• Am I becoming more patient and dependent upon Him?

Remember: Waiting is not wasted time when we are waiting on God. He is working in the circumstances—and He may also be working in us.

Prayer

Lord, help me to trust You when I have to wait. Remind me that You are working even when I cannot see what You are doing. Use times of waiting to strengthen my faith, develop my patience, and shape my character. Help me to rest in Your timing and trust that Your plans are better than my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
